By using regular instead of premium that your car needs, you are damaging your rengine. Your engine is built and designed with higher compression ratio and needs the higher octane to produce all the torque and horsepoer it was built to deliver. By using regular gas, your computer "de-tunes" your engine to prevent damage and if you are still getting pinging pre-ignition you are causing damage.

Lastly, if you are thinking of using an octane booster to help your engine problems, it is false economy. Use premium gas, it is probably cheaper to fill with premium than filling wth regular and adding a bottle of booster. Use premium gas to keep your engine running properly.
